Wrongful death

For the family that is left to sort it all out

There’s no right pace for this. We can talk now, or when the funeral and the worst of the paperwork are behind you.

A claim after a death can ask for funeral costs, lost income and what the family has lost. It can also be one more thing on a list that is already too long.

We’ll explain who can bring the claim, what the deadlines are and what it can and can’t do. Then you decide whether to go ahead.

  • Unhurried first conversation, at home if you prefer

  • One lawyer you can reach by name

  • No pressure to decide

What a claim can and can’t do

Honest about what money means here

Money can’t answer a loss. It can cover the funeral, replace the income your family counted on and pay what’s owed, so that nobody has to choose between grieving and paying the rent.

Who can bring a claim depends on state law, usually a spouse, a child or a parent, through a personal representative. We’ll tell you who that is in your family and what the deadline is.

We would rather you call too early than not at all. You can always tell us to wait.

What families ask us first

Do we have to decide right away?

No. There are deadlines, and we’ll tell you exactly what they are, but you don’t need to decide in the first call.

Who can bring the claim?

Usually a personal representative of the estate, for the benefit of close family. We’ll walk through who that is for you.

Is there a cost to look into it?

Talking with us costs nothing. If we take the case, the fee and any case costs are explained in writing first.

Whenever you’re ready.

Call, write, or ask a lawyer to come to you. No one will rush you.
